Game 18 Heartbreak loss at PNC

How many umps does it take to find the plate? In last night game it took more than one

I guess we can’t complain about how exciting these games are, day in in, day out. This one was an umpire decision reversed on the final play of the game which resulted in a walk off Pirates win. Oddly enough the entire game was a “mirror image” one. Each team had only 3 hits, 1 run, and 4 left on until the 9th. Pitchers each had 100 pitch games. The Giants could not get the lead at the end, with 2 hits in the top of the 9th, but Marte did it for the Pirates, with a triple to the wall, when Sandoval misplayed. Even the slide to home plate was a last-minute reversal of the umpire’s decision.
It was a fast game to make up for the over 5 hour game the previous night. Rain is predicted for the closer of the series. We will see. Our is goal as always to win the series.
Casper the dog liked last nights game. According to his owner he is a diehard Pirates fan for 10 years. He is sporting his Pirates colors and looking dapper.

And now for the woman’s take on the game. I was heartbroken by the loss. Hudson deserves better. I was irate that Pablo couldn’t manage to get on base, and that he cost us the game. I know that Boche is walking a fine line in dealing with Sandoval. You have a talented player who is not performing. How long do you give him chances? His contract is up at the end of the season. Is he a spoiled brat, not playing because he is mad that Hunter was offered the deal? Or is he just trying to hard because he wants to perform? I guess we will know by the end of the season, but last night I was not happy! Bert takes this less seriously.
After Pablo’s error to have the final play at the plate reversed was like salt in a wound. That’s why I posted the umpire shot at the top of the page. The umpire was right there, and he makes the wrong call. Fans who don’t like replay should remember this game. Sure we all like to win, but this game points to the value of the new replay system. As a Giants fan it was heartbreak, but I want to know we won fairly. It is tough enough being a Pirates fan this season, and I don’t want to steal a game.

For the pluses of yesterday. We were told on the plane that we needed to try Primanti Bros. for lunch, so Bert and I both has the Pittsburgh cheesesteak complete with slaw and fresh-cut fries in the sandwich. Bert’s only comment was that by the time he finished the sandwich the fries were cold.
We got to see Kathy, the events coordinator again, and that was a plus. She reviewed what we liked about our visit to PNC and what we though needed improvement. We found that they do post passed balls, and wild pitches, but from 223 we could not see it. In 219 we were able to see that. We also heard from some fans Carol and Gary who we met earlier in the trip and they shared a photo of them enjoying a game. We also heard from people at home regarding Kruk and Kuip mention of us the previous night.
One of the perks of this trip is meeting new people. Carol and Gary are diehard Giants fans and have season tickets at AT&T

The views in this stadium are great. I like the Gulf building being lit up to celebrate a victory. It reminds me of Gotham in a batman movie.
I wish we had more time in Pittsburgh, as I would like to visit the city more. It is tough with late games followed by afternoon game to do much.
Until,
Bert and Le Anne

Again, good to read your commentary and impressions. Also that you’re getting attention and recognition wherever you go. My friend, Michael Rosen, says the commentary about you from Kruk and Kuip was “extended.” I haven’t seen it yet, as Michael us out if town for a week, but I’ll tape it ony phone and show it to you when you get home. Real heartbreaker last night. Good luck with the rain today. Go Giants!
